How to find brands to manufacture for
Where new work actually comes from for a contract manufacturer, and why the brands worth having are rarely the ones who find you first.
Most contract manufacturers get new work from three places: referrals from ingredient and packaging suppliers, brokers and consultants who place production, and brands searching directly. The first two are relationships you already have or can build in an afternoon. The third is the one most sites do nothing about.
The brands searching directly are searching by capability and location — "beverage co-packer Oregon", "small batch hot sauce manufacturer". If your site is not somewhere findable when they do, the enquiry goes to whoever is. It usually is not the best site; it is the visible one.
The harder question is which enquiries are worth answering. A brand with no formulation, no packaging supplier and no realistic volume will consume weeks of your time and may never run. The sites that fill capacity profitably are the ones that qualify fast and say no early, not the ones that answer everything.
What to actually do
- Tell your suppliers what you wantYour ingredient and packaging reps talk to more early-stage brands than any marketing you could do. Most have never been told what a good fit for you looks like.
- Be findable by capability, not just by nameA brand does not search for your company. They search for what they need made and where.
- Qualify on volume, timeline and readinessRealistic annual volume, when they need it, and whether formulation and packaging are actually settled. Any one of those unresolved is a long conversation.
- Publish your minimums honestlyA low MOQ attracts enquiries you do not want. Stating it plainly filters before it costs you a call.
- Make the first run easy to say yes toA pilot or sample run converts far better than a quote for a full commercial batch, and it tells you whether they are real.
- Ask the brands you already make forFounders know other founders. It is the cheapest channel you have and almost nobody asks.
NextBatch lists manufacturers by what they actually run and where, with certifications shown as facts. Brands you invite yourself are always free — and you earn 20% of what any brand you bring pays, every month, for as long as you are both there.
