Ontario accounts for the largest share of Canadian food and beverage manufacturing by output, concentrated around the Greater Toronto Area and through southwestern Ontario towards Windsor.
The proximity to the United States is the structural advantage. From southern Ontario a truck reaches Detroit, Buffalo and the whole northeastern US inside a day, which makes it the natural base for a Canadian brand that intends to sell south of the border.
It is also where most of the country’s ingredient suppliers, packaging converters and food-science talent sit, so the supporting cast around a co-manufacturer is denser here than anywhere else in Canada.

- Bilingual labelling is federal, not optionalMost prepackaged food must be labelled in both English and French across Canada. Get artwork right before you print, not after.
- Cross-border adds a layerSelling into the US means FDA facility registration and, for many products, a US agent. Ask early whether the site already exports and knows the process.
